2012-03-20 - in Treasure Cay

What a gorgeous beach this is!  It's so quiet, so clean and the water is warmer than we have ever felt.  We walked to the one end of the beach where, at low tide, you can walk to a small island for shelling.  We were on a rising tide and the water was filling in when we got there so it was only Kerry, with his longer legs, that made it all the way to the island.  We'll give it a go again tomorrow!

Connor and his friend, Ben, got to chat this morning over the internet.  It's been the first time on this trip that the internet has been this good!

2012-03-17 - to Treasure Cay (via Spoil Cay)

We left the anchorage mid morning to head to Spoil Bank Cay.  It's a small cay off of Baker's Bay that, we had heard, was created from dredging the channel the cruise ships used heading to the northern tip of Great Guana Cay in 1989.  Disney then scraped the idea since the cruise ships couldn't reliably go through the Whale Cay Cut - the cut just next to this location.
Spoil Cay is a great spot to pick up shells.  Connor and I went alone to do some beach-combing.  We end up picking up a few bits of 'bad plastic' and a few more shells, of course.  It's hard to pass some of them up.
Connor noticed a great find, though.  It was a hollowed coconut filled/stuffed with all sizes of hermit crabs.  I picked it up and they all rolled out.  It was quite a site.  We ended up 'borrowing' 3 hermit crabs for the night.  We researched them online and learned that they eat pretty much, anything!   We had lettuce and carrots handy.  But, we then moved on to oatmeal (uncooked) and lentils.  They were all over them gobbling them up.  We tried to get them to try on new shells, but they seemed pretty attached to the ones they had.  I will have to go through our shell collection to see if we have different sizes that they may fancy!  They are quite interesting little guys.

hermit crabs everywhere!

2012-03-16 - to Great Guana Cay (Nippers)

Today we headed over to Great Guana Cay as the Barefoot Man was giving a concert at Nippers.  His repertoire included fun beach songs - most of them about places in the Bahamas.  It was a lot of fun.  Connor took no time to help the band out by throwing out coloured beads to the crowd.  Dylan also got himself the best seat in the house - in the VIP section on the lap of Kim, a friend of the Barefoot Man.  We enjoyed the whole day and decided to stay at Guana in the anchorage and head back to Treasure Cay in the morning.  Great Day!
